Felicity Loughrey tries underwater music at one of Arizona’s best spas.
In a prim uniform and wedge espadrilles, spa director Dzeneta Arslanovic, pads around Spa Avania. Attached to the Hyatt Regency at Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale Arizona this spa is a relatively new addition to North America’s spa capital.
As she moves through the US$9 million facility that gives a nod to local architectural hero Frank Lloyd Wright, Arslanovic points out the 14 different music zones that change throughout the day.
“Our spa concept is so unique,” she says. “For lack of a better word, it’s common sense. We all know that our body, mind and soul need different things during the day. Our lifestyle that we are in right now, we tend to work against our body.”
So at Spa Avania, citrus-infused water is served in the morning to energise; mint and ginger water at midday to aid with digestion; and cucumber and honeymelon water at night to calm the body. The spa’s treatments and yoga classes are also tailored to suit the time of day.
There are cold and hot plunge pools for Bavarian Kniepp therapy for a restful night’s sleep. And then there’s the spa’s stunning outdoor French Celtic mineral pool with underwater music. You’ll never want to swim in chlorine again.
