When you’re travelling it can be hard to find a good, reliable cafe for breakfast. The world is full of runny under cooked fried eggs, watery scrambled eggs and toast with stingy butter.
Fear not. The best breakfast in Perth, starting from 6.00am, is at Dome. It began life as a local legend and then became a brand. Find it at the end of the old-fashioned Trinity Arcade, just off Hay Street Mall. It’s cool and shaded in the Perth heat and cosy and secluded when the temperature drops.
WHY 14 MILLION WA LOCALS VISIT DOME EVERY YEAR
Dome breakfast choices include muesli, pancakes, croissants, toast, eggs hollandaise, bacon and eggs, smoked salmon and eggs…and they are obsessive about their coffee. There is free wi-fi and a generous supply of newspapers and magazines.
You can’t really argue with the locals and in Western Australia, 14 million of them visit a Dome every year.
There’s a reason why Dome started in Western Australia and then took over the world. It has 65 cafes in Australia and also Dubai, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and the Maldives. Squashy, comfortable armchairs, beautifully designed ceilings, no annoying music and yet beautifully private for quiet conversation – there’s a reason why so many of Perth’s movers and shakers have their breakfast meetings here. At the same time, children are welcome, if you’re looking for somewhere to park the crayons..
LUNCH AND AFTERNOON TEA
A British businessman on Trip Advisor commented about the Trinity Arcade branch, “Nothing to dislike about this place, my colleagues and I fly in to Perth, stay one night then travel offshore. Despite our hotel offering breakfasts we always go to the Dome.” We have to agree. And you can have lunch here, with a huge menu of choices, or a leisurely afternoon tea.
Walk into Dome from the Hay Street Mall side, or the St. George’s Terrace side. Simple. If only every city had a reliable Dome. It’s a franchise which feels like a one-off. Thank you, Perth.
