"The old astrological idea that Sun is father and Moon is mother. When they are opposite (a Full Moon is always opposite the Sun in the horoscope) there is tension and difference. This is one reason why you may prefer to skip any Full Moon as it’s a stretch in the community. It’s necessarily tense. But – does it apply to other challenging situations, apart from births?"

Spending more time at home, indoors has made us all more aware of the Full Moon. Is it true that it affects us more than we realise? And when is the next one?

Births and the Full Moon

There are more births on a Full Moon according to a French study of over 38 million babies.

The same findings have been confirmed in Japan.

Sun is Father, Moon is Mother

This fits with the old astrological idea that Sun is father and Moon is mother.

When they are opposite (a Full Moon is always opposite the Sun in the horoscope) there is tension and difference. The Sun is in the opposite zodiac sign to the Moon.

You might say the mother is the one enduring birth while the father is necessarily separate from the experience. Perhaps that is what astrologers have noticed, down the ages.

This is one reason why you may prefer to skip any Full Moon as it’s a stretch in the community. It’s necessarily tense. But – does it apply to other challenging situations, apart from births?

Motorcycle Crashes

Because hospital admissions are timed and dated, it is possible for researchers to gather a vast amount of data to check on Full Moon timing. In America, sadly, fatal motorcycle crashes are linked to a Full Moon in a study going from 1975 to 2014.

In Japan, road accidents were found to take place more on a Full Moon in a study going from 2010 to 2014

This makes sense in terms of opposing forces which we associate with a Full Moon in astrology. Me versus you (two vehicle collisions) or me against the world (crashes). The idea of being at odds with/at conflict with anybody or anything is quite in accord with astrology.

Your Moon Sign and Moon Cycles

If you don’t know your Moon Sign you can order an affordable natal chart here which will use your time, place and date of birth to show you exactly where your Moon is. Once you have your Moon sign as well as your usual Sun sign, you have a couple of key truths about yourself – for life.

A Full Moon which is opposite your Sun, or opposite your own Moon, may be a stretch for you. It may involve you at odds with other people, or your environment. Test it – keep a journal.

About Your Sun Sign

The Sun shows how you shine. How you stand out. It reveals your special attractions. What people queue up to see. It also shows where you shine, brilliantly and brightly. When you work hard on the qualities of your Sun sign and polish them to gleaming perfection, you warm everybody and everything up.”

The Moon sign is completely different again. (It is unusual to have the same Sun sign and Moon sign – your odds of that are 11/1). The Moon in your chart shows how you nurture, feed, supply, tend to, protect, guard, shield and raise. Usually babies and children, but it can describe ‘things’ as well. Or other adults, if you have to nanny them.

Shining With Your Sun Sign

These are cartoon/archetypal sketches of the Sun Signs. You very rarely find anyone who embodies the qualities in a perfect way. Yet, if you are proud of yourself, have self-confidence, had at least one supportive parent and know who you are – you will recognise glimpses of yourself in these descriptions.

Check for yourself to see if a Full Moon against your Sun (in the opposite sign) seems to stretch you, or challenge you, or even confront you – in terms of your usual Sun sign personality and path. You can always find the Full Moon here.

Pro Astrology Secrets

The more transiting (travelling) planets or other factors in the same zodiac sign as the Moon – the more you will find life easy/difficult – in terms of expressing your Sun Sign.

So, for example, if you are a Sun Pisces and the Moon is in Gemini one day, along with the North Node, and the Sun, and Mercury – that’s hard work.

And if you are a Sun Aquarius and the Moon is in Libra one day, along with the Sun and Venus – that’s easy flow.

The Full Moon and Sleep

Something else that is ripe for research is a higher incidence of Google searches for particular medical conditions – on a Full Moon.

Web searches for epilepsy go up on a Full Moon, perhaps because of sleep disturbance with the white, light, bright lunar disc outside the window.

Doctor Visits and the Full Moon

Some studies focus on general doctor visits – do they increase on a Full Moon? The answer is yes.

It’s Up To You

The best way to find out if the science is right  (and not the sceptics) is to keep a diary and watch how the Full Moon affects you and your friends, partners, family – and animals.

Yet, the studies on hospitals and doctors, suggest that there is an increase in challenging or tense conditions/situations when the moon is full in the sky. This does tally with horoscope wisdom.

If you can pick any time at all for the really important things in your life, you may want to skip a Full Moon.
