Have we reached a point where some serious Corona virus triggered airfare slashing is needed? United Airlines, who on the 25th February withdrew its 2020 profit forecast, citing uncertainty around the coronavirus, seems to think so!

Bloomberg tweet on United Airlines

On February 24th savvy travellers discovered direct fares on United Airlines between both Sydney and Melbourne flying to Los Angeles for as little as AU$662. An absolute bargain, with the cheapest of economy fares usually sitting above AU$1000 mark. This was originally reported in the media as being a special available on the I Know The Pilot website, however at the time of typing we noticed that you can simply book these heavily discounted fares direct on United Airlines site.

But today there is more with Both Qantas and Fiji Airlines joining the discount party, dropping prices on a batch of return airfares to Los Angeles from Melbourne (starting at AU$665), Brisbane (starting from AU$684) and Sydney (starting from AU$685). These fares however are not (yet?!) appearing on the respective official Qantas and Fiji Airlines websites – visit a fare comparison site such as I Want That Flight or Skyscanner site to search for these special offers. Plus it’s safe to say other airlines will be soon be jumping in the ring. So, if you’re based on the east coast of Australia and you’ve be dreaming of a trip to the United States, now is the time to act and book your tickets.
