The Best Beachside Coffee at Goat Ledge, Hastings
Hastings, Sussex is everybody’s dream British beach day trip, but with so many choices for cocktails and coffee, where do you go? We asked Lily Gutierrez, local writer, currently working on the Story Time project, about where she takes her daughter on sunny (and even not-so-sunny) Hastings days.
The Hastings to St. Leonards-on-Sea Beach Walk
These two tiny towns are a 15 minute stroll from each other along the beach and both have their own charm, quirks, cafes, bars and shops. Once you have arrived at either train station from London, just head in a straight line for the sea. At one end, facing the water and looking right, you’ll be in the direction of St. Leonards, or St. Lens, as the locals call it. This is the land of secondhand, charity shop, vintage and retro bargains. Face left, and you’ll be pointing towards Hastings, which is the hippest (more expensive) beach town in Great Britain. The great thing about Goat Ledge is this. It breaks up the walk, with a coffee or cocktail…
Lily Gutierrez – “Goat Ledge is my go-to. I order the Sunrise Sandwich with smoked cod and an adffogato. Set on the beach, these colourful huts seem to grow each month. What started as an ice-cream stand has grown into a cafe specialising in fresh fish, a cocktail bar – and now a barbecue hut too.”
