New York taxi drivers produced their own calendar for Christmas 2013 and it became a Twitter travel sensation. As reported in New York Magazine (which has more photos to view), firefighters have had it their own way for long enough. Writer Phil Kirkman and photographer Shannon McLaughlin are the creators of the NYC Taxi Drivers 2014 Beefcake Calendar, and proceeds of the $14.99 calendar (cheaper than most downtown fares) will go to University Settlement, an organization that provides social services to immigrants.
Taxi Drivers’ secrets are also worth knowing. When won’t you get a cab?
4 to 5 p.m., during the shift change and 4 to 6 a.m., Fridays and Saturdays
And never forget the basics:
When the numbers on top of the cab are illuminated – cab is empty.
When the numbers on top of the cab are turned off – cab is occupied.
There’s even a problem page service run by NY cab drivers, called Dear Cabby. Email [email protected]!
