This
famous Buddhist temple, dating from the 8th and 9th centuries, is located in central Java, Indonesia.
The name
Borobudur derives from an expression meaning ‘Mountain of Accumulated merits of the 10 states of Bodhisattva’ and it’s built in the style of
Mandala, which symbolises the universe in Buddhist teaching.
Built as a place for glorifying Buddha and guiding mankind from worldly desires into enlightenment and wisdom, its crowned by a sphere representing Nirvana – it is empty. Or is it?
