Frida Kahlo Virtual Exhibition

"Costumes, prosthetics, unseen work and other Kahlo rarities - unearthed at her home - for a virtual exhibition."

Fridamania, the Exhibition

Frida Kahlo has drawn such a huge global fan base in the 21st century (including famous fans like Salma Hayek) that the term “Fridamania” has been coined to describe it. Her face is everywhere, even now – and you can watch a virtual exhibition of her life and work, free, on YouTube.

Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving shows her personal possessions, photographs and paintings in a film that almost feels like being there. Find out more here.

Braces, Prosthetics and Paintings

In 2004 at her lifelong home, La Casa Azul (now Museo Frida Kahlo) in Mexico City – researchers found photographs, 20 vibrant Tehuana costumes from her wardrobe and personalized braces and prosthetics—alongside paintings and drawings.

The exhibition was on view at the de Young museum in 2021 but as part of Virtual Wednesdays, a weekly YouTube broadcast, you can now walk around Kahlo’s life and times – with your eyes.

Kahlo has inspired a huge range of books and magazine covers and is well-known for being one of Madonna’s favourites in the art world. Her work also appeals to children and teenagers, and younger readers have several titles to choose from.
