With rooms for solo travellers starting at around AUD/US$100 and doubles that cost far less than that for each of you,  The Hotel de la Herse d’Or on the groovy Right Bank of Paris, very near the Left Bank and the Latin Quarter, is a chic, cheap option for your next trip.

Check into a cheap, chic $100 Paris hotel

You can walk to Place des Vosges where Victor Hugo lived for almost 16 years, the Carnavalet Museum and the Picasso Museum,  both featured in our bestselling e-book for the iPad,  The Holiday Goddess Handbag Guide to Paris.

The Guardian summed up The Hotel de la Herse d’Or this way –

“Sometimes it’s the little details that matter. This hotel right in the heart of the lively Marais district has free Wi-Fi, flatscreen TVs, and hair dryers in each room. Of course, a four-century old hotel may have ancient marble fireplace mantels and beamed ceilings, but don’t expect a lift or air conditioning. Pack light and if you’re a light sleeper request one of the rooms facing the two interior courtyards, not the busy street. The “economic” rooms have just a wash basin, shared facilities are in the hall. The “comfort” rooms have en-suite facilities.”

You can take your dog (or your cat) and there is a reading room, bicycle park and 24-hour reception.

The shopping around the hotel is incredible. Wander through the Marais and you will find brand names like Diptyque and Fragonard with their own stylish boutiques – and exclusive French shoe, bag and fashion stores. You are close to two Metro stations and a huge range of places to dine and drink, from takeaway falafel in the old Jewish quarter to classic French restaurants.

Check prices on double rooms

Single rooms at the hotel are around 75 Euros or $100 (AUD/US) per night. Double rooms are around 99 Euros, so well under AUD/US$100 for each of you. Holiday Goddess often has very good last-minute deals here. If your dates are right, you’re in luck.

Our tip is to ask for a room overlooking the peaceful interior courtyard and to book well ahead. Enquire about en suite bathrooms and continental breakfast and ticket reservation for local shows.

The closest Metro Station is Bastille, 200 metres from the hotel. From here guests can travel directly to the Champs Elysées and The Louvre. Notre Dame and the Pompidou Centre are both a 20-minute walk away. It’s hard to think of another Paris hotel offering such a great deal, in such a hip location, such a short distance from art, fashion and style. Just look at the location…

Your morning walk is spectacular.
