London: David Bowie Landmarks

Next time you are in central London, you can pay your respects to David Bowie at his two most famous landmarks.

Soho

23 Heddon Street, a short walk from Brewer Street in Soho, sports the Ziggy Stardust plaque.

This protected street, away from the roaring traffic outside, is dotted by cafes and restaurants, so you can toast David Bowie after you’ve left your flowers or taken a photograph.

It was on this spot, marked by a black plaque, that the famous photograph of Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust album was taken in 1972. Since his passing, it has become one of two unofficial shrines.

Brixton

Catch the Victoria Line to Brixton, when you exit the station, you will see the Bowie mural straight across the road. This is the second main shrine in central London.

Morley’s department store

David Bowie’s mother was an usherette at the local Brixton cinema and he was born in this part of South London, on Stansfield Road. The local department store Morley’s has given one of its walls to the mural and there is also a long-standing tribute to Bowie on the stairs, if you climb up from the ground floor.

Are you a Bowie fan? Unmask yourself and pay a trip to Heddon Street or Morley’s next time you’re in central London.
