"The menu changes seasonally at Pitzi,. Just one reason why locals come here all the time. Next week it may be something different."

Sit outside on Friday 3pm-6pm for aperitivo in true Italian style (complimentary snacks with your drink order) or drop in for dinner from 5pm, from Tuesday to Saturday. The pasta is always handmade.

Where do Romans go to feel at home in Hobart? Pitzi. Where do you go, if you’re missing Rome? Pitzi.

Sit outside in the sunshine or dine indoors (but book – Pitzi is popular).

Aperitivo After Work

Aperitivo after work on Friday is particularly big with Italian Tasmanians. So that’s bitter-sweet drinks and small snacks, on the house.

Thank God it’s Friday, lives here.

The antipasti is memorable. Try the focaccia, hazelnut and anchovy oil ($8) or the devilled eggs, tuna and smoked paprika ($9).
We grazed on Tasmanian Wild Ale and plenty of small plates.

Muscovy Duck Pasta

One of us was still hungry and dived into Tubettini with Muscovy Duck. The menu changes seasonally at Pitzi, though, so by the time you read this, the duck may have disappeared.

Just one reason why locals come here all the time. The Tuna Crudo with mandarin was delectable but next week it may be something different.

Pudding was a sensational Cassata Ice Cream Sandwich for everybody.

Tasmanian Wine

From the Derwent River in Hobart to the Tamar River in Launceston, the vineyards which serve Pitzi line up with Italian classics.

If you are celebrating, there’s a big $400 bottle of champagne.
Pitzi, opened by Federica Andrisani and Oskar Rossi, means ‘little one’ in Italian but there is nothing little about the drinks menu.

Tasmanian Oysters

Bruny Island oysters which are characteristically plump, creamy, fishy-sweet and served with Japanese dressing – attract visitors.

They go very well with the kitchen-cooked focaccia.

You will hear some saying this is the best bread they’ve ever had. The anchovy and hazelnut oil can probably be copied at home, even if you’re not up to making your own Italian bread.

The Art

Oskar Rossi’s father, the late Tom Samek, has left his characteristic art on the walls and also on the merchandise.

The plate arrangements are also a work of art. Delightful to look at, incredible to eat.

Fullers Bookshop

Pitzi has been glowingly reviewed in local newspaper The Mercury, Time Out and The Sydney Morning Herald in recent years – and kept its good name.

Victoria Street is in the centre of Hobart close to another irresistible Tasmanian classic – the big, award-winning Fullers Bookshop at 131 Collins Street.

Italian cookbooks, anyone?
