Hit an end-season sale at the Launceston City Mission op shop and save hundreds of dollars on Country Road, Marcs, David Lawrence and more. If you’re lucky you’ll also find vintage shoes.
Myer or Secondhand Myer?
The Launceston City Mission on the corner of Wellington and Frederick Streets, is a short walk from Myer (the only department store in town) with many of the same labels…for just $12.
An even better stocked shop is also a short walk away at 105 Wellington Street.
None of clothes in their sales are in season, but when you buy at the end of days (summer as autumn begins, or autumn as summer ends) you will find great bargains on the sale racks as the Mission charity shops clear space.
Designer and Vintage
Hanging in the window of any Launceston City Mission shops, might be a new-looking Perri Cutten suit, a chic jacket and skirt combination for just $35.
We also found genuine vintage from the 1970s on the racks. Children’s frocks with hand smocking, carefully sewn by somebody decades ago, were just $25.
In autumn, the leaves fall from the trees in green Launceston and the prices fall in the City Mission windows.
The Wellington Street shop is tucked away so out of the usual tourist pathways. This may be why you can find bargains galore.
City Mission for Trent Nathan
These charity shops, just a short walk from Country Road, will also offer you (used) Country Road.
We also found Trent Nathan, as well as Perri Cutten. Marcs, Kookai, David Lawrence, Country Road and Blue Illusion were all spotted when we visited, for prices a fraction of their original tags. From $25 down to $10, for example.
Thousands of Books
At the back of the Wellington Street shop you will also find an entire room stocked with thousands of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs.
The usual wedding dress section is at the front – and the rest is pot luck. Some days you walk into a Launceston op shop and find your dream vintage suitcase – other days you’re looking at five identical copies of cheap throwaway fashion but all of it is worth rummaging for.
