It can be hard to find the best (convenient, affordable, delicious, not McDonalds) breakfast in Newcastle if you are new in town. I always bring people to One Penny Black. You can’t get lost finding it. Just walk down to 196 Hunter Street, towards the beach. The coffee is good. Batch Brew, Cold Brew, take your pick. You can make a reservation online but outside tourist season, you can usually walk in. Try Poached Eggs with spinach and haloumi on the side. They also make seriously creamy scrambled eggs.
