The brand began in 1943 when Giorgio Angele began his training as a pastry chef in Rome. In 1956, Angele joined the Italian Olympic team in Melbourne as their pastry chef. Once the Olympics was over, he stayed and opened his first cake shop in Kew East. Angele eventually purchased a café called Brunetti in 1991and the rest is…profiteroles.

The Brunetti coffee is a Brunetti x Lavazza blend, serving 300 people at a time at Flinders Lane. Tip – Be there at 7.00am. Or 8.00am on Sundays.

And it’s not just Italian. The New York Cheesecake at Brunetti is authentic. The Cookies and Cream is straight out of L.A. and a long way from Rome. And if you’d like a romantic Parisian wedding? Croquembouche.

Wood-fired pizza, pasta and panini are so popular at lunch time, you may want to nip in at 12.00 noon to find a coveted table outside, or in the front of the space near the big, open doors and windows.
