Anita ice-cream and gelato is the global chain for ladies who lunch.
It looks like a boutique, but inside it’s high sugar heaven.
In Britain, the US, Israel, Australia, Spain, Greece, Mexico and New Zealand the feminine branding, designer containers and store styling have made Anita a destination for women as part of weekend shopping.
The Story
Anita is a family business from Israel, named after Anita Avital, the ice-cream eating, larger-than-life, Moroccan mother of the brand’s co-founders, Nir and Adi Avital.
Nir, her son, bought her an ice-cream maker for their apartment kitchen in Amidar.
She had been widowed at 29 and had four children to raise. She got to work. Her amazing recipes took off.
With Nir, Anita then began selling her ice-cream from a food truck at a traffic intersection. Strange but true.
“It was already clear there that this was something special,” Anita said. “I brought the cart there for Nir, and I just couldn’t believe it – within an hour and forty minutes, there was nothing left.”
Pavlova or Black Forest?
Anita Gelato rotates its flavours, but the full list is here.
Pistachio, Black Forest, Pavlova and Mixed Berries – how can you make any of that at home?
Flavours are tailored for different cities. In New York, Anita has Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jelly.
You can bring it to a party, though (from selected stores) where an Anita ice-cream truck is for hire.
Not Just Ice Cream
Anita also offers chocolate cookies, meringue kisses and caramel sauce on the side.
This is a video tour of Anita’s at Bondi Beach, Sydney from the popular Where’s The Food channel. Cookieman is the biggest selling ice-cream there.
