The best Hobart outdoors nightlife is under cover, heated and an easy walk from the centre of the city.
In The Hanging Garden
In The Hanging Garden is your first stop. Tucked away opposite the library at 112 Murray Street it is open from 11.00am until late, Wednesday through to Sunday.
Upstairs there’s a modern log fire to suit a group of six- and covered heaters, Tacos, fried peppers and more Mexican food to order from the two big bars.
Vintage furniture, from old school chairs to comfortable armchairs, decorates a cleverly lit, green area on two levels where Hobart comes to drink and dine, year-round.
Downstairs there is a huge area with another bar and spaced open-air seating. There is music occasionally from bands or a DJ so check on the website.
Location: 112 Murray Street
Hours: 11.00am until late, Wednesday to Sunday.

Hobart for Two – La Sardina Loca
If there are only two of you, head somewhere smaller. Chic La Sardina Loca is a five-minute walk from In The Hanging Garden.
You can dine outdoors, under cover. It opens Monday to Thursday from 4.00pm until late. At 100 Elizabeth Street, it’s close to everything. It’s a fishy menu. Oysters, whitebait, salt cod, sardines and a good vegetarian menu make it popular.
Location: 100 Elizabeth Street, Hobart
Hours: 4.00pm until late, Monday to Thursday
Salamanca Place
Most Salamanca Place restaurants, pubs and bars now have umbrella or undercover dining and outdoor heating. Two of the best and biggest spaces are steps away from each other in this eating and dining hub, with yachts lined up and a weekend market.

The Blackfooted Pig
The Blackfooted Pig is part of the restaurant complex outside the Macq01 Hotel. It is absolute waterfront and has a tapas menu and stunning views of the river.
Location: 18 Hunter Street, Hobart
The Hobart Brewing Company
Around the corner is The Hobart Brewing Company which offers food caravans and a wide open space, with some umbrellas for cover, and a large bar which is happily door-free. Choose from extremely good Asian or Mexican food cooked while you wait.
In colder weather there are big open fires. There is a good Tasmanian and home-brewed beer list and live music on occasion. Find them at 16 Evans Street.
